API's CEO Sheryl Barden and President Jennifer Pickerel holding red phones signifying Aviation Personnel International is on call to handle workforce questions

Aviation Personnel International (API), a US-based recruitment and human resources consulting company, is celebrating its 55th year in business at NBAA-BACE.

Founded in 1971 by aviation psychologist and recruiter Janice Barden, the certified woman-owned small business works with business aviation flight departments on a range of workforce issues, including compensation, recruitment, and workplace culture.

“We have served exclusively the business aviation industry for the last 55 years in all things people,” says API chief executive Sheryl Barden.

This year, the company says it is embracing a “red phone” theme, positioning itself as a resource flight departments can turn to when facing workforce questions and challenges.

“Everybody needs a red phone to call API when they have people issues,” Barden told Flight Daily News, holding a red phone-shaped purse.

A recent API survey of Part 91 flight department leaders found compensation and benefits to be the top workforce concerns, followed by recruitment and work-life balance.

At NBAA-BACE, API is looking to provide education on how companies can navigate these topics, with a specific focus on culture and compensation.
